To those who are near, I am excited to see you all soon.
To those who are far from sight but close to my heart, I am missing you this Eid.

May Allah swt accept our efforts throughout the month of Ramadhan and inspire us to be steadfast in our worship and good deeds.

The Compliment

5 days of hospital attachment w Miss Q. And I had a good time. I wasn’t really planning to go because I’m a homebody like that, rather watching the television and reading books, being a bore, but because she made the effort to pick me up at home, I was like, well why not.

Plus it’s not like she's just anyone – she is my dad's friend's daughter.

That day, I had a patient tell me I was one of the best doctors he'd had so far. Hahaha He didn't know I am still a student.

Mr S was a patient who'd been in the ward for 5 weeks. He was young, smart and articulate.

He was also HIV positive (don't worry, I am far from infection ;p) , and they were treating him for complications of the disease. At the moment, he'd succumbed to the infection and was only recently blind. I couldn't help but pity him - like you know, just imagine a young man with many years ahead of him, only to have his vision taken away in the peak of his life.

I always enjoyed talking to him during my morning rounds, and I could tell by the way his ears picked up that surprisingly he was listening of the clack of my shoes against the hospital floor. I had fun trying to walk softer so I could surprise him and we always got a laugh out of it.

It wasn't difficult to listen to his thoughts or concerns. It wasn't that difficult to relate to the fears he was going through, and yet, somehow, masyaAllah this young man managed to maintain a positive face throughout. He never failed to tug at my heart strings.

It meant a lot to me that he thought I was good. Hahaha

I am not even into the medicine line yet. So like I am far from a good doctor - but my only advantage is the fact that I take time out to listen to them. I am lucky that I have had the opportunity to watch some truly fantastic doctors working together - I have had some truly inspirational specialists and medical officers who have been amazing, and I am thankful I've had that sort of exposure.

I am not good, but I am learning.

Thanks Mr S.

You made my day.

Riyadhus salihin

Membuka riyadhus salihin & menyentuh bab- kelebihan menuntut ilmu & menyeru kebaikan:

dakwah, amar ma'ruf, nahi mungkar (mengajak kebaikan, mencegah kemungkaran) is everybody's business because it's everybody's opportunity!

p/s: Doesn't want Ramadhan to end :(   sedihnya..semoga lahir 'orang' /jiwa baru selepas Aidilfitri

Sister

My sister and I are 3 years apart. She only came into this world when I was already 3, all princess-y and demanding. So of course, everyone ooh-ed and aah-ed over this new baby. She was THE princess, and what on earth is this thing stealing my spotlight.

*BLOWS NAIL*

So we grew up always fighting. Mom would put us in matching clothes and I loved it! I would be so proud holding my sister’s hand, and I would smile but then pinch her when Mom’s not looking. And the most unforgettable one was the 'rancangan masakan' at the kitchen. hahaha.

When she was in Japan for Students Exchange Programme, I was so bored when I don’t have anyone to talk about…stuff. Funny, the meaner you are to someone, the more that someone loves you.

Ana

Ana and Okaasan, her foster mum

Anyway, blood is thicker than water. And like most siblings, we grew closer and closer as we grow older and realise we needed each other to cover up when one is watching TV till late night.

So to you Ana, all the best for your upcoming SPM! I know you can get straight A+s. (Since you've proved us on ur recent pre spm). Fix your A-. Hahah mom will very disappointed when she see any A or A- in your report card.

I love you Ana. I was forced to say that as a child, but now, the love is somewhat there and it’s totally my choice! It’s always been just the two of us and I’m so grateful I have a sister like you (woudn’t be saying that 10 years ago).

Life and Love

I've pushed aside the topic of marriage for quite a while. I was in denial for the longest time. I enjoy single life and I never believed in rushing into something I'm not ready for. Mum and I have had this discussion (ok tipu, dia bagi warning) that my main goal is to graduate first, stable here and there, Allah's willing, and we'll cross the bridge when we get to it.

I never really gave this thing more than 10 seconds of deliberation. As I said earlier, I pushed them aside. That's why I am very much like not into the topic of marriage if someone came up with it. Be it on your blog, FB status or whatsoever. Macam anti semacam.

Howeverrrrrrrrrrrrr  I now feel it's time for me to look at things from a different perspective.

Last night I was respectfully asked by one Muslim guy if it'd be okay for him to get to know me with the intention of getting married.

Whatttt?? At this age? I know, I am 20! No, not yet, coming 20.

Ok thank God it was only a DREAM.

So vivid, but not clear about the name and all. All I know, he's a doctor and saw something Kbreeti (does this even make sense?)

Woke up feeling very nervous I can tell. hahaha. It was a nightmare for me seriously.

Somehow it really got me thinking. As much as I want life to work out a certain way, He is the best Planner of all. I've always prayed for what's best and not for anyone specific because maybe what or who I want is not written for me. And as much as I want what's best for others it may not be what He has planned for them. Just have faith that they're all part of His ultimate plan for us.

ps: and oh everyone, please don't misinterpret this post. I'm not saying I'm thinking of getting married soon! The dream just made me realise a few things about life. It keeps moving on and so should we!

Lailatul Qadr will be coming soon, inshaAllah. The night Allah has ordained its value to be worth more than a thousand months. While we look forward to Lailatul Qadr after the iftar we just ate in the safety and comfort homes there are people out there who don't have the privilege and luxury to do the same. While we fast for twelve or fourteen or however many hours in a day, the victims of the drought in the Africa aren't able to break their fast because they have no food or water.

In the last ten days of Ramadhan while waiting for Lailatul Qadr you can help to make a difference in someone's 'world'. Here's a humble list of causes by Muslim Aid to give you an idea. Thanx bapak for giving me this :)

Teka teki

[Posted with iBlogger from my iPod touch]

Maaf

Maafkan saya jika terlalu banyak post lately. Maaf sangat2 :| (oh sebab tak suka menyemakkan newsfeed orang lain)

2. While waiting for Isyak, a little girl around the age of five or six came along and offered me a cup of Zam Zam water to drink. I think she was bored so she decided to make good use of her time by distributing cups of Zam Zam water to the people around her. I thought it was really cute and smart and it made me realise how beautiful a person’s akhlaq (mannerisms) can be when they are raised well. Kan bagus ada anak macam ni?

3. Segaja menjauhkan diri. Bukan nak memutuskan tali persahabatan ke apa. Maaf sebab saya malu. (ok yang tak ada kena mengena jangan perasan)

4. Best jugak ye tulis dalam BM? Teringat zaman di KMS tengah2 bercakap si Ayuni kadang kadang menjerit nak betulkan ayat saya. Sigh

Being in love with...........

Masjidil Haram................

Kaabah from P11 Raffles Hotel ... Night View

I could never bring myself to say 'No' if someone offer me to go there. There is no other mosque in the world that can bring together Muslims of different sects, ideologies, cultures, tribes, races and nationalities the way this mosque does.

I can see the beauty of Islam shine through Masjid al-Haram like sun rays filling up a dark and empty room. You know, I can go on and on about Masjid al-Haram because I don’t think there is any other mosque in the world that is quite as majestic in terms of its significance in Islam. I think this particular mosque has a very special place in my heart :) I can’t explain what it feels like but all I know is this: I will always yearn to go there just to feel that way.

Masjidil Haram

People usually swarm into Makkah during the last 10 days of Ramadhan. To be near the Kaabah, Allah’s house. And because the ibadah you do in Makkah is many many times better than anywhere else. THAT is why you’ll find soooooo many people cramping in the Masjidil Haram mosque.

THAT is why hotel prices in Makkah during the last 10 days of Ramadhan are many times the usual and a few days trip to Makkah during this period can cost you hundreds of thousands.

kaabah

Credits   Isn’t it just beautiful?

Being there is like a dream come true for me.

I want to re-connect with Allah.

I want to understand Him and this religion He has given us more than anything else.

Selamat beribadah semuanya, bye! :)

Random Snippets

1. Ramadhan has passed by really quickly. Today is the 16th day (just for the record). But don't declined the spirit :)

2. Happy belated birthday Azah! May Allah bless you with everything you've always dreamed of, beautiful. Hoping the best for your UK's placement future doc! :) On the other note, take note Amal, I want the birthday wishes nicely written on the snow too! haha guess I'm jealous much.

3. On a sad note, I'm leaving Malaysia on the first week of October. I feel all nostalgic right now. You know, like all of a sudden you look at your surroundings differently and just about anything can make you feel emotional and your thoughts seem to drift away so easily to all the fond memories.

4. Hani and Hasnor left for US. Pretty sad because I didnt get a chance to meet them. Now we're all over the world friends. Wishing them the very best and dear Allah, please guide them to have an amazingly successful life overseas whilst never forgetting You.

4. Many of you would have heard about the recent outbreak of riots in parts of London and now spreading across United Kingdom. Being away from home may be tough on some of us, but being away from family during difficult times are the most testing. Hope some of the friends are ok.

5. Bad memory, my late grandmother passed away on my first day of BTN, one day after I said goodbye…in a way I think Allah knows I wouldn’t have been able to handle it. Bapak told me the news when I came back in Kuching on Sunday.
Bapak gave a speech about how everything happens for a reason and we have to accept Allah’s will. He slowly eased into the bad news and finally, “Nenek dah meninggal.”
It was so sudden. There was a huge lump in my throat and I wiped the tears. I didn’t get to kiss her one last time.

To my late nenek, I will always remember all the advice you have given me. You will be greatly missed by all of us. I pray to Allah that you will be taken care of in heaven.

Al-Fatihah.

Don't Complicate Your Deen

Subhanallah, I'm really touched :'(

I am trying to become a better and practising Muslim each day. Now let me tell you, it is not easy as I thought it would be. Struggles with the faith at some point, and it's like a continous battle.

Life in dunia is temporary. It’s not worth impressing a bunch of people who won’t be able to help you when you need to cross the Sirat al-Mustaqeem on Judgement Day. Besides, what’s not cool about entering Paradise?

To be Muslim and have an understanding of the true meaning of this life is more precious than all the pleasures and success of this world.

But don’t stray from the teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah.

"O you who believe! Do not make your decisions (and yourselves) ahead of Allah and His Messenger but fear Allah: Verily, Allah is All Hearing (Sami'), All Knowing (Aleem)." (Surah Al-Hujraat: 1)

Despite our differences we can always find a positive common ground between us and we should use it to support each other and not let our differences become a reason for us to judge one another and bring each other down. InshaAllah, I am reminding myself as much as I am reminding you.

**********************

I just feel sad that many of my Muslim brothers and sisters are missing out on the spiritual enlightenment that Islam has to offer. I was once like that too so I know what it feels like. Just please don't put a barrier between you and Allah.

Housemen stress? Not quality one?

Is the quality of the house officers (HO or commonly known as houseman) in our country really that bad..??  emmmm, i think those who are working in the hospital definitely know the answer..

There are few factors contribute to the poor quality of the house officers, one of them is the business-orientated money-digging poor medical education system, both local and abroad; other factors include poor attitude from the house officers themselves, as well as lack of support from the senior staffs (MO and specialists)..

Let me draw an analogy how is a doctor being produced in this modern day..
First, you must know the concept of instant noodle..

you can choose vegetarian flavour, or spicy ramen flavour..  similarly you can choose to study medicine in local or abroad..

Open up the cap, throw all the seasoning into the cup..  similarly, you attend the medical school and the lecturers throw all the textbooks on you..  (it is very sad to say that when the students approach the lecturers for any doubt in their study, the lecturers most of the time and most likely will answer like this “go back and read your books, come back and tell me the answers tomorrow”..

so basically the doctors nowadays are produced by medical textbooks and not by medical schools..  and this also means that most of the medical lecturers nowadays are makan gaji buta (earning easy money)..  surprisingly, some of these lecturers even do not know their subjects well and do not know how to perform a clinical examination in a proper way..!!!!!

Then, pour in some boiled water..  similarly, the students are “floating” in the medical schools..  study just because of assignments, tests, examinations..  but do not know how to link the basic sciences with the clinical problems, do not appreciate the progress of a disease, everything also main hentam and tembak (shooting the answers all around)..

and finally, you get your instant noodle, and instant stethoscope..  :p

so how can we expect these instant noodle doctors to perform their tasks competently and to function as a house officer confidently..?????

********************

My thoughts,

There are just too many medical schools in our lovely country..

These medical schools said they wanna produce more doctors and to improve the doctors-patients ratio..
but they never promised that they can produce good quality and competent doctors..

Are they really interested in education or just merely another “easy-money-earning” business..??

Of Amal and Tika!

I'd like to believe that in life, you will reach a point where you start questioning everything you do. Your studies, your destiny, yourself, your friends, what you want in life and the most mind boggling thing is when you realize that after all these years, nothing is falling into places yet.

It can be a really scary feeling but if you feel that way, trust me you're not the only one. So go easy on yourself...

Lucky for me, I have people I love in my life who keep reminding me these things. They are so down to earth and are genuinely nice people because I really choose who I want to be close to (honestly). I always believe that you deserve who you end up with; the good will be with the good and vice versa.

So I must be somewhat good (hehe) because I ended up having a best friend like Amal!

A best friend who keeps me sane and grounded and recently took one step ahead by registering for marriage training course in Dunedin -___-'

She is seriously the most humble person I have ever known despite the luxuries and achievements in life, and I really admire her for her values.

How it's funny that it has always been just us two kannnn? :)

And the great thing having her in my life is that when you literally feel shutting your house door from the rest of the world, you realize that you could still make an exception for one person- and that would be her.

Everybody needs an Amal in their lives, and I hope you've got yours too :)

Amal 2

I was trying to show some love to her. But never mind, she's too shy like thattt ;p

Pictures on the wall

Salam and morning! :)

I’ve always wanted a full wall of pictures. Stumbled upon some pictures on some websites and found it’s awesome!

picture wall

Photos on the walls

I don’t dare stick pictures onto the gorgeous wallpaper at home because mom will make me sleep outside and repent, plus my room has limited space.

Since I’m going to *ehem* new place soon, so I thought why not fill up the room wall with memories :D

I think the picture wall is a great idea! When I look at the pictures, I’m always reminded of the good memories and it motivates me to continue as I have suchhhhhhh a long way to go to fulfill my dreams and expand further.

Such a pointless entry. Okthanksbye

Of random

Throughout this journey of being young and confusing there's one important lesson that I learn.

It's to take one thing at a time.

Yes, we worry and we think about the future A LOT!

Breaking fast

I usually don’t like going out to buka puasa.

Not because I have something against buffets. I’m not crazy or anything.

Blog4

But because to get the permission is so-so..

Me: Mom, I’m breaking fast outside tonight k.

Mom: *pause* Ma tak tahu la apa nak jadi dengan anak Mama ni. Mama tak ajar anak Mama keluar malam macam ni. Bulan puasa bulan yang patut you baca Quran banyak-banyak, sembahyang terawih dekat masjid, berzikir all the time. Not go out hoo-ha hoo-ha malam-malam. Lagi satu Mama nak cakap, Ramadhan buffet in the hotels, not all halal ok. Mama pergi baca buku, dengar ceramah semua Mama learn so many things. Mama tahu you all dah besar, tapi agama mesti ingat. Jangan ikutkan hati je…

Pause.

HOW DO YOU ANSWER TO THAT?!!

Me: Yes, Mom.

Mom: I don’t know anymore. You want to hoo-haa outside, you go la. I already told you.

WHEN SHE SPEAKS IN ENGLISH, YOU’RE SCREWED

Of course it's time to pile on the ELDEST-child charm.Hehehe :D

Tonight was a very intimate do with just the awesome company. So we breaking fast + tarawih together. These people who come into our lives for different reasons, for seasons, and some even for a lifetime. And they make a mark on us. They make a mark on our heart. But one is missing in Dunedin :'(

May the spirit of Ramadan illuminate the world, and may Allah shower His Rahmat and Barakah on us all.

Manners!

After my university offers entry, I've been receiving a lot of questions recently through FB inbox / chatbox / Formspring. Thank you very much. Some were very sweet and nice so I would very much like to express my personal thankful here.

There's also a portion of it which I could not be bothered. A portion of which I hope by now you've realised I have a thing for manner. Now where's that Salam and hello? You don't come to people house without saying and having your manner with do you? And let me tell you this

Manners bring you far. It does.

ps: I realised there is some part of it sounds like questioning " Layak ke kau dapat placement di Queen Mary?" I am sorry, but I am truly deeply sad when people think or says that way. If you want know how I got it, the applying process, please ask me, verify it with me first.
