30th Dec 2011

Assalamualaikum,
Closer to the end of a 365 days journey throughout this land of Allah.. with a conclusion in mind: "Wa la Galiba illallah," - There is no victor but God (Allah)

Aswan, Egypt

Taken at Aswan, Egypt.

Reflection of the past illuminates our present. Happy Friday, everyone xx

.Wish for the day : SABAR yang teramat SABAR kerana banyak yang perlu dibaca (dan sabar jugaklah sebab kena baca banyak, tapi exam 30/45/50 minutes sahajaaa!!!?) ,

...fasabrun jameel, insyaAllah you'll feel the sweetness in the end..

Love and Hijrah

Assalamualaikum,

Ramai yang ajak pergi 'Hatiku Milik Siapa', program by third batch which will be held this Saturday, 31st di mana ketika saat saat diri hendak bertarung dengan exam. InsyaAllah, ada rezeki, pergilah. Kalau tak, taklah.

Ramai yang berbicara pasal cinta semenjak dua menjak ni.
Kenapa ye?
Musim kahwin ke ni?
Ke sindrom dah tua?

Because..Love. Such a powerful thing, which can turn your world upside down and makes you do stupid things. It is the reason for that sheepish smile when no one is watching, for that giddy feeling only understood by one i love.

And also you will be having one of those moments when you're having butterflies in your stomach for no reason. It’s not that anything exciting happened, or any good news were received.

It’s just one of those few minutes when you just feel a jolt of happiness.

Stumbled upon this essay, written by a winner of free Twins of Faith's ticket on Toots's blog, beautiful. An absurd, twisted idea of beauty..

Best! very honest I believe. Bacalah tak rugi :)

and I pray that we will all find our other half who will complete another half of our deen (way of life, religion and faith) and makes us better person inside and out, insyaAllah

********************

Hijra to me means to improve one’s self continuously. It does not have to be something significant, a small step in the right direction can be the start of an important journey; as long as you keep making the small steps over and over again. Stealing a quote from one of my favourite movie, Any Given Sunday: “Don’t underestimate the inches you gain in life. At the end of the day, those inches can add up to a mile. Those inches can be the difference between winning and losing, living or dying”.

My Hijra’ will most probably be out of place when compared to how others describe theirs.  My Hijra’ happened a few years ago. It happened when I met a girl, the girl.

At first glance, it is easy to dismiss her as an incomplete Muslimah. She belonged to the free hair group. She did not camp at the Musolla after Maghrib prayers, choosing instead to spend time in the college’s cafeteria, chatting with her many friends, both guys and girls. She had a flirtatious look in her eyes that no red blooded guy can ever resist. She came from a wealthy family, one that rubs shoulders with the most influential people.

Yes, it was easy to label her as an incomplete Muslimah.

Yes, it was easy to label her as bad news to a goody two shoes Mummy’s boy such as myself.

Yet, meeting her and knowing her was my Hijra’.

For beyond what others see of her, lies the true definition of a Muslimah. She is kind, going beyond what is required to help those in need. She is a true friend, honest and loyal until the end. She judges no one, built long lasting and true friendships with people from all walks of life, from children of tycoons to a girl from a village whose family own nothing but the shirts on their backs. She honours her parents, cares for her siblings and respected her elders. She observes the Rukun Islam wholeheartedly. She lives her daily life according to the teachings of Islam without making a big deal out of it, never one to do something just to make people think highly of her.

And when I knew her, I saw kindness and softness I never knew existed. Admittedly, it was her long flowing hair, her smile and laugh that got my attention (I was a teenage boy, what do you expect!). But it was what I saw of her on the inside that made me fall in love, as cliché as that sounds. I can pretend and say it was a “dating according to Islam” relationship but we were kids at the time and we were in love. It was an emotional relationship, filled with mushy “I love you” messages, tantrums, pouting/jealousy (not always from her!) but above all, total respect and devotion for each other.

And where are we now? Alhamdulillah, happy to say that we are now married, more than two years and I love this girl more today that I ever did. I respect her, cherish her and would do all in my power to make her happy.

Now, you may ask, what does all this have to do with my Hijra’? Well, as I said, to me Hijra’s is to improve one’s self.

And she is my Hijra’. From the first day I met her, I strive to be better.

To be a better partner. To be a better son. To be a better friend. To be a better student. To be a better brother. To be a better husband. To be a better father. To be a better Muslim. Why?

Because she deserves to be with the best partner.

Because her parents deserve the best son (well, son-in law).

Because she deserves to have the best kind of people as her friends.

Because she deserves to be with someone who works hard and achieves things that makes her proud.

Because she deserves to be with the best husband.

Because her children deserve the best father.

Because she is a true Muslimah and she deserves the best Muslim by her side.

That is why, this girl is my Hijra’. From the first day I met her, until today and insya Alah everyday for the rest of my life, I am improving myself to be a better person. Small steps, things that nobody but me would notice. Inches by inches.

And Alhamdulillah, a mile down the road, my Hijra’ is still going strong. With her as my companion, I will walk a million more inches.

After all, an inch could be the difference between winning and losing, between living and dying. Between jannah and jahannam.

Or, between free tickets and paying for myself! ;)

Dan siapa sangka seseorang boleh mengubah cara pandangan/pemikiran seseorang.

Secara jujurnya, kadang2 kalau saya rasa malas nak berpersatuan/study/usrah, saya try ukur diri saya dengan dia.

Macam "Eh eh, mesti dia aktif bpersatuan kan, xboleh jadi, aku mesti jugak"

Heppp heppp bukan boyfriend ke ape, hormat / suka dari jauh je.

Haaaa macam tu lah. Tak taulah elok ke tak cara ni, tapi sedikit sebanyak dapat menaikkan semangat gitu.

Teringat pulak ucapan Zack bagi masa birthday hari tu,
"Be solehah first, insyaAllah your zauj will be soleh too..ameen"

Sweet nyaaaaa, tak rasa macam tu ke?

Ntah lah, ape ape je lah.
Bye, nak study,
Rasanya mesti dia tengah study jugak kan,
senyap je. kahkahkah dahdiamlaheka oi

Assalamualaikum.

5. Ended up in front of Ibrahimiah market area– where the fairly lights was happening. Ooh-ed and Aah-ed and headed back home.

6. Woke up very early Sunday morning, with good and positive vibe.

7. Online on facebook and find out Ain has uploaded her trip pictures in Andalusia (You know how much I love this place, other than Turkey???). Lalala. Exam qa exam. Araso araso.

8. Finished the night with milk and balasyam. Hana knows how to get my smile back. LE5 of balasyam just enough.

With the power of the search engine, I finally discovered the recipe to satisfy my craving. Carrot cake!

I miss cakes that mommey made at home, sadly to have all of them here obviously impossible.

With the combination of carrots, crunchy walnut, cinnamon and cream cheese frosting is absolutely yumms!.

The month

Assalamualaikum..

15th. It's halfway through December, and I'm happy that this month has arrived. The mode of festivity is arrived especially at MARA's hostel area which I forgot the street's name! Fairy lights, gift boxes, christmas desserts, christmas sweets and foodies, christmas trees and decor, sales and stuff

Back in Kuching, the way people and the whole town transformed sets in the mode of festivity, and this brings a tingle of happiness.

No hidden agenda, awal saya cakap....just sharing the joy and my perspective of Christmas for those willing to ponder..are you? ;)

So, with this Awal Muharram mode is still around, and yesssss another new year of another calendar is coming around, have we become better, or learn more things, or masih di takuk lama?

7th December 2011

Today is the 7th of the 12th month of the 11th year of the century. Today is a set of numbers to remember.

But as for today, a gentleman Dr Ayman (bukan nama sebenar), O&G speacilist with his fatherly instinct spoke of words that really did turn my world around. Sebenarnya saja melepak dengan professor2 ni, sebab suka. Kadang2, belajar bahasa Arab dengan dia orang, tanya pasal Egyptians culture and stuff, other than talking about academic stuff la kan ;)

Dr Ayman: I think u'll make a good pediatrician. Have you thought about this?
Me: Ouh really? What makes you think that way?
Dr Ayman: It's just the way you carry yourself around kids *grin*

(Kebetulan, ada anak staff dekat office diaaaa XD)

On this memorable day, Dr Ayman! Today, you have made me feel like "Wow, I really do fit in somewhere in medicine!" That is the best feeling ever. So on the most memorable day of the century my prayer is, alhamdulillah for this motivation and let it stay. I love kids and paediatric might well suit me. InsyaAllah.

Dekat FB pulak, ada hamba Allah post video budak cakap loghat German + Utara. Makin lah happy + high spirit gitu :) Hehehe

Take a Pause

Hey there everyone. Assalamualaikum.

I don't wanna mention "It'd been a while now", but yes it has.

My purpose of writing is not to satisfy you, nor to make you get me.

Rather, just to write, write in every plain sense of the word.

I miss you. and your writings. I enjoyed it everytime I read it because those were the depth of your heart. Inilah dia, orang yang ada pendirian sendiri. Asalkan berasas, tak ape. Ahh abaikan.  I just have a weird way of showing it. It's like my cerebrum's sending mixed up nerve signals all over the place. Le sighhh

.Nota : Tak suka betul la bukak FB sekarang. Macam2 yang menganggu pemikiran. Like, macam macam!

.20 feels like 40.

I don’t usually have expectations for these kind of days once a year. But it’s hard to not feel depressed when you’re alone in the house on a Tuesday writing this with a million of other studies-related things to do.

I have cold flat spaghetti, lamb kebabs, samikun fillet, a whole lot of cheeses and I plan to eat ‘em all.

YAY me.

.Note : Have a great day people, because you make your own choices of how your day would be. Dan senyumlah :)

Of 28th

Assalamualaikum..

It's kinda fun to do a quick self-discovery session with yourself, it sort of helps you re-think about myself, who I want to be and what I should be doing now. I should be drown in biochem now, and it has been three hours, so I decided to slack, tomorrow's class at 2. Tak perlu rajin sangat kot. hehe.

Met my Histo's Prof this morning and my feet hurt from the standing. Class ended, went to library, nobody there, and went back hoping nobody home yet. I planned to cook Laksa Sarawak for lunch. Then enjoying it alone while Hana was back around 2. Afternoon spend well, updating my biochem and histology notes, usual routine after class (Yea, I know right, boring kan?).

But , yeah here I am. 11 pm. Mentally and physically tired.

Be my guest. Bore yourself with my boring survey, have some boringness and a cup of peppermint tea. Or have it a sweet cupcake, it's a month of winter btw. (Oh, x ada kaitan)

.morneeeng.

 Assalamualaikum wbt.

1. These past couple of days had been… really testing. It was difficult to stay away from school because you're sick, it was difficult to see friends, it was difficult to studying and stay focused. It’s safe to say I’ve reached a peak point. And it’s hardly euphoric.

2. These days, semenjak dua menjak lah, I find myself as one of those negative adjectives. Whiny. Spoilt. Clumsy. Nasty. Jealous. Emo. All of them. There’s just something wrong with my heart. Or head. It’s winter, everyone says. Or to be honest, I say.

3. Anyhow, moving on to nicer topics: I've met with several awesome final medical students here (tapi mostly yg I met, dah kawen =____=') . MasyaAllah!. They’re amazing! And I don’t know how I’m ever going to reach their state of mind and skills… but here’s to hoping @_@
Wait. This is actually depressing :(

4. Okay. Here’s another try. I have the most excellent biochem prof. Of what; I shall not say. But he is a jolly person and I LOVE HIM!. He teaches and he guides and he’s friendly and he’s AMAZING. He makes me love biochem and scored ;)

5. A lady tugged at my winter coat sleeve asking where did I buy my coat. I pulled away with a hurry and stared suspiciously at her. After the friend’s incident at a bank, I decided no one had good intentions when it comes to money.

.Nota 1 : Tapi this time around punye emotional instability: melampau..Depression ping-pong every 2 hours? O_o  Even Ben & Jerry’s ice cream can’t help that. BUT it was good because I could finish notes within time.

.Nota 2 : Knowing that it has been awhile. I hope you're doing well.

Best 10 minutes well spent. Some food for thought for tonight.

Gotta keep finding stuff like this more. Brain needs to exercise much.

What do I really want in life actually?

1.
Is it just to learn and learn, keep my head straight ahead, be a doctor, then be satisfied and that's it.. get on with life?
i have the feeling, by then, it would be like waking up from a trance, realising that life is actually more than just that and i've missed learning the essential elements, the beauty of being a human.
Too immersed in the future that i get caught up between the past and the present.

2.
Is it.. to travel?
To go to those places around the world, outside the boundaries of the land i'm living in all this while, and discover the variety of culture, the beliefs which exist on this very land before i close my eyes and leaving this world for good?

3.
Money??
Why, sometimes, the rich gets richer, and the poor gets poorer?
Why, they are still families torn apart when money isn't a problem?
I thought by having your needs satisfied by the slight swap of credit cards, you'll be happy.. aren't you?
But.. on the other hand, do you think those living in the squatters areas inside those derelict homes of theirs are really happy with their lives?
When stomaches aren't properly filled.. and when homes aren't the proper shelter.. will that make them happy?

4.
Is it to be remembered?
When I was little, I've dreamt of fame.. once.
I want my name to be remembered.
I want to be a somebody of great importance.
I want to make discoveries, so that my name will be written in books, journals, encyclopaedias.
I want to leave a mark in this world.
Ambitious, but yes.. I've dreamt of that.

5.
Is it.. to have a family?
To be a good wife.. and a good mother?
So that my story,
my love and tenderness would be passed down generation after generation of mine as being the one who shaped and mouled people of intelligent minds, with beautiful faiths and hearts?
To have someone with me beside my deathbed,
a lifelong companion whose intention isn't just to be with me in this life,
but also the hereafter.

6.
Or.. is it, to be a humble and loyal servant of Him?
The one who believes in qada' and qadar,
strong-willed in facing life's turbulences as she knows they are from Him,
merely to test her faith and to give her the chance to reward her even more.
Will I be ever be good enough for His Jannah?

Above are a few things that had been going on in my mind - what I wanted in life.
Knowledge, Money, Fame, Love, and Faith.

And, based on my feeble judgements..

Knowledge : I want to be wise. Not just academically knowledgeable, but learn from others on how to be a better person. If changing means a better me, then why not? And.. it's never wrong to be a traveller. Experience is one form of knowledge, isn't it?

Money : Be rich is not my priority. I just hope that.. money won't be a problem for me.

Fame : Be known, be famous..hmm..do i really need those?
"I want to leave my mark in this world."
Well.. maybe i will leave a mark, just maybe a slightly different one.

Love : This one is indeed.. BEAUTIFUL. Love, accompanied with reason and not heart alone, will make life full of purpose. A strength to live. One day, I want to have a family. To be a good wife and mother. And, to be an obedient daughter till the end of time - too much to ask from myself, but will never be enough to repay for what my parents had done.

Faith : I'm too small to talk about this. :( Sangat kecil.. dan sangatlah tidak layak. One day I hope, I'll prove myself to be a good enough servant.

.Wish for the day: Mom! tsk tsk. Orang tengah demam terok ni, dah masuk hari ke 3, tolong doakan ye, supaya cepat sembuh. Tak pergi kelas pun hari ni. Sedihnyaaaa :(

Every blessing ignored becomes a curse?

Assalamualaikum.

One senior buzz me through twitter, asked me this

" @atiqaaskan hey :) I want your thoughts on something. Would you mind? "
" @atiqaaskan why do you think people say "every blessing ignored becomes a curse"? "

Every blessing ignored becomes a curse. this is indeed....tough. I was waiting for a spark of eureka to shot across my mind, for I haven't been writing such thing like this (heavy thoughts) for a while. And I thought I would like to share it here :)

So I replied her :

Blessing ignored, can I interpret this as 'tidak bersyukur dgn rahmat yg diberi'?

I believe blessings is the sign of an Almighty Creator. Every blessing ignored, hmm I'm not judging them (kalau ada yg ignored), not one bit. But maybe I feel sad that some the people are missing out on the spiritual enlightment that Islam has to offer. I was once like that too so I know what it feels like.

Takut nanti kalau blessing hilang, terngiang2 lah kata2 ini : Ingat lima perkara, sebelum lima perkara -

    Sihat sebelum sakit
    Muda sebelum tua
    Kaya sebelum miskin
    Lapang sebelum sempit
    Hidup sebelum mati

Demi masa…
Sesungguhnya manusia kerugian.

Dapat sahaja nikmat itu, hargailah. Gunakan sebaiknya.

Kerna, pabila hilang, walaupun seketika, cukup untuk menginsafkan.

and maybe that's why people say every blessing ignored becomes a curse.

p/s: sorry kalau tak menjawab soalan :/

Some people might look at this question from different perspectives. I don't know, but this is what I think, what I answered.

.Wish for the day: Someone gotta bring me out today. I want ice-cream.

Dreaming

When she was 7 years old, that was 13 years ago, she sat in a far corner of a restaurant in the middle of the then developing Miri. As she twiddled the spoon absent-mindedly with her fingers, her eyes lingered towards the wall with small patches of peeling paints.

Definitely looking for something. It had been a habit for her, even at the age of four, to read signboards, banners, and in this case, advertisements. She found them pretty much amusing.

And yes, she did saw something. A huge advertisement glued to the wall about a brand of coffee. She read it through, shamelessly loud enough for the next table to hear.

And then, there was this commentary / testimony of a doctor, whose name she couldn't recalled, except for the institution he's graduated from - University of Edinburgh, UK. She was instantly filled with a curious sense of excitement.

Well, it went off as swiftly as it came the moment the fried noodle arrived.

Strangely, out of the whole advertisement, only that one particular name still freshly etched inside her mind, as though it was just yesterday.

Google, University of Edinburgh. Google. tap tap.

oldest medical schools in Scotland and the UK. It ranks first in Scotland and third in the UK....and etc., etc., etc.

"Cool. I wanna go there. Well, IF I earn a scholarship for medical studies in UK. IF.. and only IF."

That was her three years ago, after getting 10As for her SPM....

She's a mere 20-year-old sharing a piece of her dreams with her beloved readers. There's no harm in dreaming. It might as well come true :)

One day, one fine day, I'll pay you a visit, I promise :)

Cuma tiga perkara perlu dijadikan pegangan;

1. Dia sentiasa bersama dengan orang-orang yang berusaha.

3. Dia mempunyai perkara yang tersirat di sebalik setiap ketentuan-Nya, perkara yang sentiasa menjanjikan kebaikan.

Happy Eid Selamat Hari Raya Aidiladha Bon Eid

To all of you.

May you all be blessed with a year of joy, happiness and peace of mind. May you live to see 150 more Rayas! Sounds too good to be true, I know, but well, wishes on festivities are always saccharine-sweet and bombast-filled, anyway.

Nothing beats an Eid with my family back home, though. But with the solat sunat Aidiladha and pengisian + open house at senior's house, InsyaAllah terbaik :)

Food (Not) For Thought

Assalamualaikum! :)

I'm proud to announce that I've, indeed, survived that first month of my uni life. Thinking about this gives me a weird feeling actually, knowing that I still feel that I'm pretty new to Iskandariah. I'm just starting to love my life here very much; I'm not homesick as often this year.

*If this doesn't look fattening enough, tell me what's fattening food's supposed to look like.

Hectic, hectic weeks (this and the next). I have:

1) Smart Circle program with coursemates + Futsal (tournament) this Friday.
2) Seminar Perubatan dan Ibadah Pesakit anjuran Perubatan Iskandariah next 5th and 6th.
3) Sambutan Raya Aidiladha di Tanta bersma sama Ummi on the 7th
4) Port Said for shopping (not yet confirmed) ;p

There goes my 'Raya' weekend!

RAYA will fall on Sunday (most probably)

To the peeps studying/working in Malaysia, be extra thankful for you will have a full, proper Raya. Something I've been deprived of and somewhat miss :')

Cebisan Kenangan :)

The fact is, it’s getting nearer to my first test, emotions are just spiraling away and I’m typing on my blog at 10.45pm because too much input on med terms is so so tak best.

Sebenarnya tengah2 study, playlist pun kena lagu Cebisan Kenangan. Tiba tiba teringat kat kawan kawan di KMS. Seriusss, rinduu semacam ;')

Rindu it when Aisyah insisting me go to that stall mak cik Seremban Parade for tomyam, Tim's constant rambling about everything (haha), Ayuni’s need to eat something she's craving for, Azie's horror movie night or Azie's 'buat muka thing' when she annoyed with people (hahahaa entertainment), Mira's action when she saw any kids ke (ini memang totally lawakk! hahah), or even Sarah's overracting for eveything ;p  Ramai lagi actually!!!

Kira tetiba rindu sangat2 kat koranggg!
Nah, toing, untuk semuaa! tsk tsk :')

Selamat berjuang sahabat sahabatku!

Hope all is well iAllah...Thank youu so much for leaving behind such sweet memories. The wealth of knowledge, the feeling of at home and the great laugh we had was phenomenal.:)..hope that wouldnt be the last time we meet. If not on earth then in jannah iAllah. itulah pasal

Salam and hai Readers,

We don't know each other.

You've never spoken to me and I don't even know what you look like. I don't know if you prefer cakes over bread, if you prefer Johnny Depp over Hugh Jackman or if you're addicted to kuew tiaw mamak as much as I am.

But you guys are full of kind words for strangers like me. Some even says "you're such an inspiration" and I was like "whaaattt?!". In one way or another, whatever, or wherever you came from, you've inspired me to be better.

I love you for the sake of Allah, truly I am :)

Little update from me, my first module test will be this Thursday. Been flipping, reading, memorising, understanding what have been learned for two weeks. Hoping for mumtaz, because this is like carry marks kind of system.

On the other good news, Thank you Ummi, my medicmesir's ceo, for assisting me throughout the documents and stuff. and BIG Thanks to ALLAH. You're my Real Helper, masyaAllah.

.Wish for the day : Mum’s blessings, please and thank you!

Great Women

I've been reading this book and it made me realized how small we are. We're just a tiny speck in the world. How insignificant. (note that I haven't finished reading it).

Who says we can't be successful at the same time balance our religion? I have seniors studying at RCSI, College Cork, Cambridge, well you name it. Saya pun nak macam tu jugak. Hehehe ;)

Afterall, that is the purpose of living. As long as we hold onto the sunnah and quran and make an effort to learn everyday about our religion, Insya'Allah, Allah akan merahmati kita semua :) dan selamat dunia akhirat. For He is ever forgiving and generous.

Start will a simple gesture, start with a salam for our everyday greet.

Random Snippets before sleep

Assalamualaikum...

1. The clock has just stroked pass 11 pm. It is now 10 past 11 and I'm writing this post while eating mandolin.

2. The weather is getting colder nowadays and yet we have nothing left in the fridge. Oh how you love the drastic season change.

3. Term time is starting back, all the classes filled in, all the trem are cramped and almost all of the academic building seating are occupied.

4. Read seniors's book on O&G. With massive bleed yang sungguhlah physically, mentally and socially debilitating, mesti rasa goosebumps.

"its not easy...to be....me ( having ovaries and uterus and all the related hormones)...."

no wonder darjat wanita amat tinggi di sisi Islam..

5. 'm starting a collection of random notes, quotes, pictures, and videos for a resource folder. Something along the line of 'Mutiara Untuk Anak2' kinda collection. Eh the first intention was for me only actually. hehe

I thought they would be nice things to share with my children in the future (especially if I run out of spontaneous stuff....:P)

6. Hates days when i'm sober with Egyptians drivers!

Two accidents with drivers quarreling IN THE MIDDLE of the road...and dozens of reckless impatient ones all in one day, on a mere +/- 6km stretch of roads.

Feels like pasting sticker on their head saying

'do not honk unnecessarily'

or

'please keep alexandria safe by driving like a civilized person'

But it's just impossible. Ruginya rasa apabila negara yang tamadunnya sudah wujud beribu tahun dahulu, namun mentaliti rakyatnya masih jauh ke belakang.

7. Proudly, I decided that it is best I give a nice slap on myself and support the family and changed my habits and lifestyle. I've stop doing unnecessary shopping which would only result in guilty and short term satisfaction.

8. Encountered a young lady being shouting at anyone convenient (including sleepy me) most likely because of being upset she had to do extra cleaning up after a customer..astagfirullahalazeem. Wonder what kind of growing up environment adds up to such behaviour... And then a cleaner who was mopping sambil bermuka masam literally mopped everyone's feet like we x exist!(maaf, we take iktibar ok? bukan niat saya utk memperburuk)

10. Alhamdulillah video in berjaya ditonton sehingga habis b/w study breaks. Sangat enlightening!
Selamat malam :)

Greetings from Alex

Assalamualaykum all, sorry for the lack of posts. For the past few days I have been touring this legendary land of the pharoahs and home of the greatest ancient civilisation in the world.

Already, I had visited many historial sites along the Nile River with my batch. We have still yet to visit the famous pyramids and the Sphinx, since it's in Cairo, so it might be a lil bit late to go there.

1. From the airplane, the country looks like one freaking huge sand box. These huge expanse of North African desert is lifeless yet beautiful.

blog 1

2. The currency in Egypt is the Egyptian Pound. 1 Egyptian Pound equals 100 Egyptian Piastres. Mmm... piastres. ;)

1 Egyptian pound is about 60/50 cents Malaysian.

You gotta have plenty of these as baksheesh (tips), else you can't get service anywhere in the country. They carry your bags, you pay them tips. They open the door for you, you pay them tips. Even when they pose for photos for you, you gotta pay them tips.

IMG_0166
The quality of Egyptian banknotes is pretty bad. They feel like cloth more than the plastic kind we're used to.

3. Of all the cars you see in Egypt, 99.9% has scratches on them. For that reason, you're almost never gonna see a brand new car in the country.

Alexandria street scene
A city where traffic lights are not needed. Careful lah ok? Orang2 Arab ni cam laju gilaaa depa bawak ketaa

4. The galabiyya is a type of long robe commonly worn by Egyptian men. Over in Egypt, when the guys there wanna go out, they don't put on their t-shirt and jeans. They put on their galabiyyas.

The galabiyya is the like the national uniform of all Egyptian men. They wear galabiyyas out for every occassion. I mean EVERY occasion. Hisap sisha, pergi tepi pantai, name it.

Now that was meant to be a quick post to say I'm still alive!

I hope everyone had a happy day and is having a good month where ever you are right now. I know mine has been.... hm, eventful.

I'm not really in the mood to do anything else but study so I've decided to become a hermit for the next few weeks. But don't fret. I know I can't stay away from the blogging world for too long.

Sayonara for now.

See You Around!

One thing I didn’t inherit from my mom is her packing skills.

Oh my mom is fantastic.

You can give her so much and she’ll be all calm packing for you. Everything will be so neat and when you arrive at your destination, everything is still in its place. Even if you give her mountains of clothes and things, but she’ll just go la la la and fit it all in whatever suitcase size you have.

I love the idea of travelling light but I never seem to be able to do so! I’d be the worst back-packer ever. I always think Ohhh I might need that, Ohhh I’ll miss that, Ohh this might go with that… all these evil things in my head that tell me I need to add more things into my suitcase. For me, it’s better to bring than not bring.

Man, how do you guys pack???

Now that my time is coming near, I'd like to apologize to anyone and everyone I have ever caused any harm to in any way. And if I owe anyone anything, do tell me, I'm not gonna run away leaving debts unpaid.

And to all my dear friends and especially my dear beloved family, I will miss you all sooooo much and you all know I love you guys a whole lot...

I know there's so much you've all done for me, and I apologize but please allow me to be even more selfish and ask for more things, your Blessings and your Prayers =).

And you're all always in my prayers..
There's no doubt I love this country, Allah Bless Malaysia. Thank you very much everyone for everything..May we meet again some other time..

Any update memang through Twitter lah, since that's the easiest way for now until I got stable connection :)

KL - Bahrain - FINAL DESTINATION :D

Salam :)

Because she loves free food

Such a thick wedding invitation card

I love going to weddings (free food helloooo :D), but I’m such a crybaby sometimes.

I can cry just watching the video montage of any couple (even if they are complete strangers to me ) because it’s always made so romantic and backed up by a really nice love song.

But I definitely need a tissue when the parents come on stage to deliver their speech. They’ll say how sad they are to lose a daughter but happy to gain a son bla bla….but you can so hear the sadness in their voices. And you’ll then see the sadness in my eyes.

OMG I’m so embarrassing to take anywhere ok.

in a wedding:

1) Repeating the same phrase over and over again: “Hey did you guys just arrived? Please eat and enjoy yourselves!”

2) Twitching cheeks from smiling to the camera so much.

3) the inevitable question: so when’s your turn?

Thank God number 3 doesn’t apply to me. Bhahaha :D

Whenever I attended ppl's solemnization / wedding , I will look at their faces and wondered what they were feeling inside. I mean, getting married seems to be like a huge deal.

I went to Kak N's wedding last weekend. And the dad’s speech was so funny. At one point, he said,

“When he asked me if he could take my daughter’s hand in marriage, I just said yes with one stipulation. That when he took her hands, he would also take away the hands that are always in my wallet.”

I thought that was so clever! Haha.

Candy and Roses for the girl down the road

Image223

I’m quite serious about moving to a little quaint town and leading a simple life. Like opening up a candy store and making five-year-olds smile everyday at three. Or opening up a small bookstore so warm that dear seven-year-old Siti from down the road drops by each time after school just to say “Hi” and that new word she just learned from her English class. And then we’d have storytelling sessions every Saturday.

I’d like to be able to watch the greens everyday. I want to be surrounded by nature and animals. Nothing would give me more joy than the ability to stare at the beautiful blue skies every now and then, and not thick grey smokes from that truck in front.

I can’t stand the sight of cars in bunches. I want to look ahead and see bunches of summer flowers blossoming in between the bushes instead.

I’d like to be rich too, but not with money or power.

Image222

I am into branded handbags or shoes or apple stuff, I wont deny it. But I think being rich is when we are able to put food on the table and a smile on each other’s faces. And that’s a lot of inner values and passion in the heart. And I’d like to be rich like that.

I can’t stand all that partying lifestyle in the city.

I sometimes can’t stand crowds in shopping malls. I can’t stand the sight of tall buildings at every nook and cranny of the city without any element of nature in between. I want to be able to look up and breathe in the view of a beautiful tall tree. And hear the birds from those tall branches sing back.

I can’t stand loud music. I want quiet. I want peace.

But why does “simple” seem too much to ask for these days?

Jom usahakan!

Adakah ada terasa macam hati sukar nak terima petunjuk yang menyejuk?

Bukan taknak buat...tapi... Belum sampai seru?

Kenapa ye...

Alangkah untung orang seperti Sumayyah si hamba tawanan. Seumur hidup dalam kesesatan. Hanya satu ilmu yang baru sempat dipelajari - Laila haillallah, Muhammadurrasulullah. Terus diamalkan, direlakan diri diseksa dari mengakui selainNya walau dipaksa. Lansung syahid pengakhirannya & syurga destinasinya.

Takutnyaaa hati menjadi keras. Janganlah berlengah dan bersahaja mengamal ilmu yang Allah kurniakan.
Its not only privilege. It comes with responsibility to practice it.

Dah cukup seimbangkah ilmu dengan amalan? Aduh, takut sendiri bila mengenangkan.....

Bila hati keras, tak dapat terima petunjuk. Terus terusan la kita dan cucu cicit kita dlm kesesatan nanti.. Nauzubillahiminzalik..

Bak kata Franklin D Roosevelt dalam 1st inaugural speech nya as American President- Only thing we have to fear is fear itself

Usahakan yok!;) Allah akan bantu, jgn risau.Dialah sebaik2 penolong.

(referring to ayat 16: Al Hadid)

ps: InsyaAllah I'm reminding myself as much as I'm reminding you.

Speechless

*cried* :’)

Of the things I've been doing and handling

Do you have days when you really, really want to express something, but you simply couldn't find the words? Do you have days when you really, really thought that everything would be fine and no one would mind, so you took every single thing for granted?

I have those days. And I've been having them for quite some time now.

For the past few days I've been really busy. Well, I sleep during day time and night time. It was horrible. Ok lah fine. Exaggerating. I've been trying to settle all the things like bank acc, food, bags and stuff before leaving. I've got to give it to you. It's not easy. Thinking and expressing it in technical writing. Pheww..

A few of our friends have come to the UK / Ireland to study. With the new government and ruling, I honestly don't think UK is the best country to live in at the moment. What with the visa restrictions (hate this, I have to reject my Queen Mary's offer because of this), limited working opportunity for foreigner, ridiculous raising expenses and not to mention gloomy weather and tasteless food. It you want to come to Europe, come for holiday. (Ok, sebenarnya jealous ;p)

But nevertheless I still thank Allah for the roof I'm under, for the livestock I have and for the wonderful family and friends I'm with. Mom has been quite different for the past few days, not that she wasn't before but she was extra caring now that I couldn't thank you enough to Allah s.w.t for giving her to me :)

This afternoon in our neighbourhood area, I was with mak and she suddenly stopped the car.

And I was like "Whyyy?"
Mak "There's a kitten in front. Afraid I cud hit her. Pergi alih tepi japp"

And I was like ME?? Why me???? C'monn, I hate cats! No, not hate, more like geli or takut. haha pathetic.

But then kindly la, I dont know how I got the strength kan,
I said to myself  "Ok, ini makhluk Allah jugak, why so scared?"
Then, tadaaaa! Proudly I manage to lift it up!!!!

The size was more or less like in the picture. So small! Baru belajar berjalan rasanyaa..

Actually nothing interesting happened that could explain my lack of writing. Other than a lot of work to be done I'm just being a girl staying home couching. No, I don't usually do this laziness a lot, just lately.

p/s : Ok, kepada anda. Ok, anda! Kalau suka dekat dia, jangan la jadikan saya sebagai kaunter pertanyaan. Ok rimas.

Her Heart

The crystal in her earring had cracked. It was her favourite pair.

That had been a long time ago. Those earrings were now just a reminder of a time when she had been young and carefree, and she had thought that love was forever.

But the world had rotated on its axis, and she had gone on with her life, as people do.

*one in a million - music from the past.

Babysitting duty

I love when little Shafiqah and Shakirah come and visit us in Kuching. It brightens up everyone’s mood!

I’m not running for Babysitter of The Year award or anything, but I can take care of them ok!!
“Taking care” has many definitions anyway. Mine is just to make sure they’re still alive (to the extent of my control).

My aunt was out somewhere so she left me with the two kids.

Shafiqah accompanied me while I did some online work today, all the while giving me entertainment about her day and how she has 2 legs and 2 hands. -__-

***Feeding time

Shafiqah refused to eat.

“Nanti Shafiqah laparrr!!!!”

“Tak nak, sup Kak Eka tak sedap.”

-___-"

(Oh I memang x talk w them in melayu swk, fyi)

We both had our own bowl of soup. My idea was that we eat together. You over there, me over here… usually accompanied by some dinner conversation, but “Puahsgjhegrjkshfkjh” was not a language I understood.

blog 1

Anyway, Shafiqah kept coming into my territory and compared my soup to hers. She found mine to be more interesting therefore decided to dip her hands into mine. How lovely. NO ONE touches my food!! But this was my Shafiqah. So I gave in and she finished my soup. And hers too. Tadaaa! *blows nail*

***Pampers time

This is only for little Shakirah.

I wiped Shakirah clean and put some powder on her. Then placed her carefully on half of the pampers. Ok.. fold the flap, make sure it’s not too tight and not too loose, take out the sticky thingy and stick on both sides. With pursed lips and full concentration, I did it! I think Shakirah wanted to laugh at me.

And voila!!! Done!!!!

I was soo happy, you have no idea. hahaha

*** TV time

Shakirah was more distracted by SNSD's music video. On the right track, that one.

blog 2

***Sleeping time
Oh dear God, I have so much respect for parents.

It was not easy trying to get them to sleep!! They kept wanting to talk and play in bed and they kept rolling around here and there. I shoved milk bottles into their mouths. I pretended to sleep with them and just stayed silent. They kept silent too. After a few minutes, I was so happy that they’ve fallen asleep.

Suddenly, the little cute voice….

“Kak Eka, dah habish,” and shoved the bottles into my nose. Oh my room was dark. Purposely tutup tingkap and langsir semua, I don’t blame them. I blame myself.

So, the loves of my life continued laughing and playing again.

I just kept silent and pretended to sleep, hoping they’d follow suit.

Finally, the big sister fell asleep. And little sister follows everything she does, so she slept too.

At one point, it was so quiet I felt quite lonely. I wished they would wake up. Haha. They were right in front of me but I missed them. I watched them sleep and they just looked so adorable! So angelic and peaceful.

But they are leaving for Johor :'(

blog 4

MasyaAllah, Allah bless you my love.

They bring so much colour into my small family and life wouldn’t be complete anymore without them. :)

But seriously…there won’t be any Atiqa Babysitting Service Sdn Bhd
